NEURONwriter Review (2026): Honest Numbers, Honest Price Tag
We picked NEURONwriter because it came up unprompted twice in our own weekly manual AI-citation check (asking ChatGPT real buyer questions and logging what it recommends) - a real demand signal, not a guess. Signed up for the free 7-day trial (confirmed on the official pricing page: no credit card required) and ran its Content Writer, in “Optimize” mode, against a real published page on this site - our Make vs n8n comparison.
The Content Score result: another version of the length problem
After selecting 10 real competitor pages as reference (word counts ranging from 79 to 7,109 - a huge spread on its own), NEURONwriter imported our actual article and scored it:
34/100, against competitor scores ranging 33-75 in the same set. Term coverage sat at 9% - most of the
tool’s suggested semantic terms (n8n, automation, workflow, ai agent, integration, and dozens more)
simply don’t appear in our deliberately concise, 594-word article. This is the same shape of finding we
documented in Surfer SEO’s review: a scoring system built against whatever’s
currently ranking will always favor length and term-stuffing over a shorter, substantive piece, and our
article was written to avoid padding on purpose. Worth knowing before treating either tool’s score as an
objective quality measure rather than “how closely you resemble the current SERP.”
AI Visibility: a fourth independent tool confirms the same 0%
Switching the project to “domain-related” mode (free, not gated behind a paid tier) unlocked AI Visibility monitoring. We added one of the same buyer-intent questions we use in our own weekly manual check:
0% across every metric - Share of Voice, brand mentions, domain citations, Google TOP10. This is now the fourth independent confirmation of the same finding for this domain (after SE Ranking’s AI Search, Semrush’s AI Visibility, and our own manual ChatGPT check) - consistent, expected for a domain this young, and not something any one tool’s dashboard could be accused of getting wrong on its own.
The one genuinely different thing: the upsell is priced upfront
Every other tool we’ve tested this project shows a real number for free, then locks the fix behind a button that looks clickable until you click it (Surfer’s Auto-Optimize, SE Ranking’s Site Audit detail, Semrush’s Core Web Vitals, Headline Studio’s Suggestions). NEURONwriter’s free tier does something different: the trial caps AI Visibility at 2 monitored questions (Bronze plan, $23/mo, includes 5), and clicking “Upgrade” shows the actual price and what you get immediately, no click-to-reveal paywall trick:
Small thing, but worth naming: the free-tier number itself (our 0%) is real and unmodified either way - the difference is only in how honestly the upsell is presented once you want more.
What’s gated behind a higher plan
Content Designer (one-click full article generation) is Gold-plan-only ($69/mo) - not available on Bronze or Silver, so the Content Writer/optimization workflow we tested is the ceiling of what a budget-tier user gets. Worth knowing if the appeal is “AI writes the article for me” rather than “AI tells me what to fix in an article I already wrote.”
Bottom line
NEURONwriter’s free trial gives real, unmodified Content Score and AI Visibility numbers - no card required, no hidden paywall on the data itself. The Content Score system has the same length-rewards-bulk bias we found in Surfer SEO, so don’t treat a low score as proof your content is worse, just proof it’s shorter than what’s currently ranking. If you’re choosing between the two, NEURONwriter’s transparent upsell pricing and its built-in AI Visibility tracking (a category Surfer doesn’t offer at all) are real differentiators worth weighing against Surfer’s larger competitor-entity dataset.
